How To Survive A Language Class

How To Survive A Language Class

Learn Chinese Singapore, Learn Mandarin Singapore

Attending lessons to learn something new can be quite exciting and overwhelming at the same time. The hope of learning a new language comes with your dream to converse fluently with native speakers. A popular and widely used language is Mandarin—this particular dialect is considered to be the “common Chinese” and is used by almost all Chinese nationals worldwide.

Of course, there are various Mandarin classes in Singapore offered by different language schools. Each schools have different programs to offer depending on the package that your are looking at. Each program can be for a short or long period depending on your choice. Sometimes, no matter how exciting it can be, the idea of sitting for long periods of time inside a classroom immersing yourself in a new language is very boring.

With that, we have come up with a series of tips to help you survive and ace a language class.

Embrace the fact that you are going to make mistake
A lot of students, especially those who are totally unfamiliar with the language, tend to drop out the course is because they think that they should be mastering everything straight away. Stop. Keep in mind that committing a mistake is normal and that you should not pressure yourself to perfecting knowledge of Mandarin within 5 days.

Take it seriously
Before you even begin your day, prepare your mind to having a new language class to attend and that you need to take the class seriously. Think about your goals and objectives that you are yearning to meet and other things that you want to achieve by learning a new language. Get yourself together and keep your attention on the teacher!

Supplement your studies
Sure, each session of Mandarin classes is effective and productive, but what can help you expand your skills more and learn efficiently is to also allocate a few hours of self-study. Check out online resources and video materials to help supplement your lessons and practice on your own. Doing so can help you more confident and you will surely get a hang of speaking Mandarin a few weeks from now!

Do not be afraid to ask help from others
Acknowledging that you need help is a form of humility and that is a good attitude to maintain. Asking for help does not mean that you are ignorant or incompetent, rather, you need assurance that what you are doing is right and that you are taking the right path. Although professors or instructors can sometimes get intimidating, muster up the courage and ask for help. For languages that are as hard to understand and complex as Mandarin, a little bit of help will really go a long way.

These are only some of the tips that you can use or follow to ace any of Singapore’s Mandarin lessons. Enjoy your time in each session and you will find learning much easier.
